“VISION… A Preferred Future” Message by Pastor George based on Proverbs 29:18 What kind of life is God inviting you to live? What kind of person is The Lord of the Universe calling and shaping you to be? These are just a few of the questions we began asking in this past Sunday’s message. The topic of this series is “vision”, both personal as well as the vision of New Life Church. Here are some clarifications of vision, as defined by George Barna in his book The Power of Vision: Vision…
A great way to explore and begin to define God’s vision for your life can be found in the exercise of writing your eulogy. Write what you would like someone to say about you at your funeral – and they would not be lying! Spend a few weeks praying and writing, praying and editing, etc. Once finished, passionately seek God’s guidance and power to live that way. As New Life Church, we, too, are asking how people in the community would describe us as a body of Christ in 10 years. What would we like them to say? As what kind of church would we like to be described? As a part of the Elder’s Team training over the past month, vision has been the topic of study and prayer. The Elder’s Team would now like your input. We would like to gather input from you, the congregation, about the following: 1. What do you consider the strengths of New Life Church?, and 2. If someone was to ask you about the “Vision” of NLC, how would you answer? (For instance, our Mission – what God is calling us to “DO” – is “to make disciples of Jesus who make disciples”) A Vision statement is who God is calling us to “BE”, it is a picture of what you sense God is calling you BE in the future. So, finish the statement… “The vision of NLC is to be a church that is ___________________” Some questions shared in Sunday’s message were: Why did you come back to New Life Church after your first visit (Please don’t say, as our daughter did on Sunday, “I had no choice”!) Seriously, because of _________________. The people are ____________________. CAN YOU SEND your reply to the above to [email protected] The eventual result will be a collective Vision Statement which will be paired with our Mission Statement & will be utilized to guide & keep us focused as a Body of Christ. Remember in Prayer:

Many people have asked how they can help with Tom Hilbert's memorial service this coming Saturday, June 27, 2pm, at New Life Church.
A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Washington VFW (corner of 8th Street and Jefferson, approximately 4 blocks west of NLC). TWO THINGS ARE NEEDED from NLC due to the large number of people we are expecting: Could you help provide a Salad, a Side or a dessert? IF SO, PLEASE E-MAIL US by Friday noon to this email with what you plan to bring. Food can be dropped off at the VFW beginning at noon on Saturday. Also, we will need 8-10 people to help with welcoming those attending the service: at the doors, handing out bulletins, setting up extra chairs as needed, etc. Please arrive by 1:15pm on Saturday in the Conference Room where needs will be divided up. Please e-mail us if you are able to help in this way. Thank you for covering Angie and her family in prayer through this time. As was announced yesterday, we have an opportunity to run the Taco Stand at this year's Washington Town & Country Fair to benefit our Youth Ministry (PLUS the positive PR it gives New Life Church - the booth is in a very prominent location). In past years the profit has been between $4-4500. Our participation will be based upon having enough volunteers. If not, we need to let the Fair Board know so they can find someone else to run the stand.CAN YOU HELP make a difference by serving in the NLC Youth Taco Stand? Please see the attached sign-up sheets. Some were able to sign up yesterday. Adults and Youth (13 years and older) are eligible to serve. PLEASE let Pastor George know ASAP which slots you can fill... your name will be added to the schedule in the Church Lobby. At yesterday's picnic some Life Groups were considering filling a slot with members of their group - Great Idea! Living the Faith! George Picnic Time It is finally here! This Sunday we are having a two prong celebration: New Life Church's first birthday (our first worship service was June 8, 2014) and celebrating membership (nearly 90 people have committed themselves to Christ & His church at New Life during the Charter Membership phase over the past five months). This is a Potluck Picnic at the Dutzow Pavilion, beginning at noon - please bring a dish to share, lawn chairs for seating, as well as an attitude of joy and celebration. There will be bounce houses for the young, as well as volleyball, football, washers, sack races and other activities for the remaining young at heart. During worship (wear RED in celebration of Pentecost Sunday - the birth of the church) we will reflect on past year, recalling the amazing things the Lord has done In and through us. We will end the service with a BALLOON LAUNCH from the parking lot near the front entrance. Don't miss the celebration! NOTES AND REMINDERS: Did You Know? This past Sunday there were 138 people in worship and the only remaining parking spaces were three handicapped spots near the front entrance. This is a great challenge that is welcomed and desired... and one of the easiest to remedy. PLEASE HELP make room for those who have difficulty walking and for guests by parking on the side streets, particularly north of 8th street on Burnside.
