Tom Hilbert's memorial service will be on Saturday, June 27, 2:00 p.m. at New Life Church. Please see Tom's obituary below for more information. A luncheon following the memorial service is being planned, location to be determined and communicated at a later date. Tom Hilbert of Marthasville passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 20th, 2015 with his loving wife & family at his side, at the home of his daughter & son-in-law in Columbia, MO. He had reached the age of 65 years. Tom was born in Monroe City, MO to Julia & John Hilbert on December 25, 1949. Tom graduated from Monroe City High School in 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville in 1972. Tom graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a Master of Education in Educational Administration in 1978. Tom married Angelia Smith on August 3, 1974 at the Broadway Christian Church in Columbia, MO. They had one daughter Alicia. He spent 30 years in the Warren Co R-III School System. Tom taught 4th & 6th grades, Elementary & High School Physical Education. He spent 12 years coaching football & track. He was an Elementary Principal for 13 years. After retiring from education he worked part time for 10 years at the Star Stamps & Coins store in St. Charles. The last few years he has been an Aquatic Instructor at the YMCA in Washington, MO. Tom enjoyed watching the Cardinals, Mizzou Football & Basketball games. He was an avid fly fisherman & enjoyed tying flies. He also enjoyed photography & flower gardening. Tom loved working with and teaching young people. He was the Co-Director of the Colorado Backpacker Event working with CUP (Disciples of Christ, United Methodist & Presbyterian Churches). Tom was a Charter Member and part of the Leadership Team of New Life Church in Washington, MO. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Angelia; his daughter Alicia and son-in-law Joseph Kelley of Columbia; three grandsons Christopher, Andrew, & Aidan; One sister Toni Maloney & husband Mike of Monroe City, MO. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm at New Life Church, 408 E 8th Street in Washington, MO. So sorry to hear this, I still remember Ms. Smith(then) getting flowers sent to her(my) classroom from Coach Hilbert. Then getting coached by this great man when I made it to high school. Thanks for everything you did for so many and especially me. What a great positive influence that this world has lost. See ya later Coach.
