Outreach-Missions Committee will meet Sunday (Oct. 25) right after worship in the lower level.
Two Worship Services – As we were aware when we purchased the facility at 408 E. 8th Street, it would not take long to fill the sanctuary-parking lot to 80% and necessitate adding another worship service. That time has come. One example- this past week a family of six walked in at 9:30am and had to divide and sit in three different areas. The benefits of adding another service: two options for worship, more space for members and friends, room to invite guests, alleviates the frustration of there not being room for you to sit, and we will be better able to continue our mission of “making disciples who make disciples”. There are also some challenges: gatherings with everyone together, connecting with those who worship at the opposite service, Sunday School at 9am but not 10:45am (for now), double the usher-greeter and hospitality teams, increasing the fellowship opportunities through LIFE Groups, Small Groups & congregational gatherings, etc. After much prayer and input from the Elders Team, Christian Education and Worship Team ministry leaders, we will begin two worship services on Sunday, November 29. This is the Sunday after Thanksgiving and the beginning of our Advent/Christmas themed celebrations. Identical worship will be held at 9 & 10:45am, with Sunday School offered in its present form during the 9am service. HOW YOU CAN HELP?: In order for this to be successful we at least 50 worshippers in each service. To date, 38 have committed to attending through Easter the 9am service (and 4 to the 10:45). This is crucial in order to alleviate over-crowding at one and/or being too empty at another. In the next few weeks, please note on a Communication Card your name and at which service you will commit to attending most of the time. Place your card in the offering basket or send it to the church office. Please continue to pray for our collective wisdom and discernment in this time of transition. We want to continue to grow deeper in faith & fellowship as well share the good news with all. Operation Christmas Child (OCC) – OCC boxes are available today. Pick them up in the lobby after church. If you would rather give a monetary donation than fill the boxes, please make your check payable to New Life Church and make a notation on your check that it is for “Samaritans Purse”. All boxes and monetary contributions need to be returned by November 15. Please pray for these children and the many OCC volunteers that they may continue to experience God's love. “Conduit: You have been given power for a purpose”
(to listen to this past Sunday’s message or to Download a “Growing Deeper” Guide, click here:www.newlifechurchmo.org/sermons) A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were mischievous. They were always getting into trouble, and their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons were probably involved. The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, but asked to see them individually. So the mother sent her 8-year-old in to see him the following morning, intending to send the older boy in the afternoon. The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and sternly asked, "Where is God?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response. The clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God!!?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer. The clergyman got to his feet. Shaking his finger in the boy's face, he bellowed, "WHERE IS GOD!?" The boy screamed and bolted from the room. He ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him a few minutes later, he asked, "What happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We're in BIG trouble this time, dude. God is missing—and they think we did it!" **In Christ, you were saved FROM sin and saved FOR a purpose, in what ways are you using the power of God at work in you for good? Based on Ephesians 1:15-22 “…that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of this glorious inheritance in the saints. (v.18b) A Prayer to Pray: Heavenly Father, at the end of the week of creation your Word reminds me that you saw everything that you had made and said ‘it is very good’. Thank you for creating me to do good works which you have planned for me. Now, Lord, empower me to carry out such good. May I be the channel of your love and grace that those around me need. May your good be accomplished through me, today. In your precious and powerful name, Jesus, I pray. AMEN. |
