![]() The challenge has been issued! New Life Church is wondering if we have anyone who would be willing to run 500 miles to give back to our community? Not ready to lace up your running shoes just yet? We are all in luck. No running is required because we have one member who is ready to run the 500 miles – and has issued a special challenge to the New Life Family. Chuck Eichmeyer is on his way to running a personal best 3000 miles this year. He has completed 2500 miles and is looking for donations for each mile he runs of the last 500 miles. He is not only willing to do the running, but he will match the money donated by New Life up to $500.
The Outreach Team is excited about this possibility and we are ready to cheer Chuck on in this endeavor. The funds that are raised will be given to benefit the warming centers for homeless individuals this winter. Mercy Hospital has served as the warming center for many years. Due to COVID, Mercy will not be allowed to facilitate that service this year. The Washington Ministerial Alliance is working to secure funds to ensure there is a place for individuals to go during those cold temperatures. Mercy will continue to supply breakfast. Will you help cheer Chuck On by accepting his 500 Mile Challenge? You can pledge an amount per mile or a flat amount, which will be matched. Checks can be made out to NLC with "500 Mile" in the Memo... OR... Click HERE to give online through the MISCELLANEOUS SPECIAL COLLECTION Fund. CONGRATULATIONS, New Life Church! As of Sunday, December 27, you have given $3,660 toward the warming center & Chuck has reached 3,000 miles running for 2020! |

Welcome to Day 18 of our NewStart Challenge 50 Day Journey with Jesus.
Today’s reading in Ephesians chapter 5 begins with the word, “therefore“. When coming across that word we must ask, “what is it there for?“ Usually, it causes us to dig into what preceded it. The previous verse gives us a clue: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (4:32) That is consistent with Ephesians 2:8 - “By grace you are saved through faith, this is not of yourselves, it is a gift from God”. Therefore, because we have been forgiven and saved by Christ Jesus, there are these values and morals we seek to live by which are outlined in chapter 5. That is the essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ… Our Lord took the initiative to redeem and rescue us “while we were still sinners“. Our response is to live in ways that honor him. May your words and actions today be the evidence that anyone watching would need to prove that you “love God and love people“. The accompanying graphic is a picture of today’s journal page. Today's well known passage (1 Corinthians 13) has been referenced to describe what Christian love looks like in friendships as well as in marriage. But, read it as if it is describing Jesus, the Author of love, the One with whom we are spending time on this NewStart Journey. . What a picture of who Jesus is...patient, kind, not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.... Love (Jesus) believes, hopes, endures, Jesus never ends. We read in Hebrews 13:8 that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." In the song, "One Thing Remains" the chorus repeats, "His love never fails, never gives up, never runs out on me..." That is Jesus - He never fails us, never gives up on us, never runs out/betrays us. Read the passage again. Substitute "Jesus" for every occurrence of "love" in the passage. Then ask yourself, "Who does this section of scripture say Jesus is to me?" The accompanying graphic is a picture of today’s journal page. In today's reading from Romans 7-8, the Apostle Paul waste's little time outlining the battle we face: temptations, sin, past mistakes, just to name a few. This is a battle. It is why Paul spends so much time outlining who you and I are before God because of what Jesus has done for us. In addition, in chapter 8 Paul clarifies the Holy Spirit's role in not only giving us life but in helping us to live life to the full. Spending time with Jesus each day is like reporting to our commanding officer to get marching orders for the day. Some days they are words of encouragment, others the message is a warning or instruction. Which is Jesus communicating to you today? The accompanying graphic is a picture of today’s journal page. In verses 23-25 of Romans 3, the Apostle Paul shares the essence of the Gospel message: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed." This is why the Jesus with whom we are journeying for these 50 days came and lived and died. Even though you and I have sinned and continue to sin, that is not the end of the story... unless you and I want it to be. Jesus graciously offers us forgiveness and eternal cleansing, restoring our relationship with God which sin destroyed. When you and I kneel at the foot of the Cross we allow Jesus to cover us and we claim God's promise to pass over us, delivering us from judgment and eternal separation from God. The very term "Gospel" means Good News. These verses summarize the Good News of the scriptures and the rest of this chapter, and the remainder of scripture, fill in the blanks to the rest of God's redeeming work in our lives. The One we spend time with, Jesus, wants us to hear this message repeatedly, particularly due to the fact we habitually and cyclically fall into patterns of sin and/or allow sins from the past to bury us with guilt and shame. As you continue on this journey, look for more Good News which reinforces what Jesus HAS DONE for you and the reasons He did it. You have been brought back into a relationship with your Creator freely by the grace of Jesus! The accompanying graphic is a picture of today’s journal page. Our church’s goal is to bring people together, unified in Jesus Christ and with one another, in order to make a difference in our surrounding communities and beyond. We aim to do this by looking at, and seeking to follow, Jesus’ model of discipleship – helping everyone to become a disciple who makes disciples.
